Nice interview with Penelope Houston of the Avengers. She talks about a few things I think about a lot: songwriting and being in a band vs. being a solo artist. She’s tougher now than she was then and so am I.

When I was in the Avengers, it was much more of a band thing. It wasn’t me dragging us into a studio or me setting up a tour or scheduling rehearsals. With the Avengers, we were a band and when our records came out, they were on labels who dealt with it. And I wasn’t so much in charge of that band. All of the skills I’ve had to learn having my own career and being in charge of my band and having my own label and website were all learned from scratch. I think there is a certain toughness that a person has to possess to have a career in music, and maybe I developed a little bit of that when I was in the Avengers, but I’m a hell of a lot tougher now. Sometimes I think I can sing the Avengers songs a lot better now than I could back then.
